Crooked Timber is hosting a series of essays over the next couple weeks on “The Political Ideologies of Silicon Valley.” The essays are derived from a workshop I attended last spring at Stanford’s Center for the Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS).
It says something about Silicon Valley's cultural destitution that if they are the new Detroit, they never even tried to invent a delicious regional take on pizza.

What I think folks don’t truly understand is how the what’s “new” today with AI really isn’t. Even a cursory look at the history of these types of developments shows a clear philosophical foundation which helps to make sense of where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re going. Thanks for the illuminating perspectives pulling out those themes.
