Of course, billionaires would rather cozy up to people who promise to shield them from consequences. The saddest part? We keep hoping these platforms will want to do the right thing. Maybe that’s on us.
It’s always comforting to know that Meta’s moral backbone is about as sturdy as a paper straw.
Every day I feel more and more inclined to go Luddite on data centers. How much better the world would be, if only for several days, if Twitter, Facebook, and even Bluesky were unusable. People would have to touch grass and interact IRL.
Trump and Musk might actually die from withdrawal.
ADDITIONALLY: I don't know anyone under the age of 35 who even uses Facebook other than to be able to use Messenger with their parents. I'm 54 and deleted all of my social media accounts. I did delete LinkedIN, but I had to recreate it after getting stung by yet another tech layoff.
These days I use Discord instead because it's like old school BBS/Forum servers where a community of people who know each other, usually IRL know each other, keep in touch and share a common passion. My mental health improved significantly.
You're just glossing over the anti democratic activities of Biden administration. From how they colluded with China to discredit the lab leak theory to their complicity in saying Trump won in 2016 because of Russia. See in Twitter files how the HUnter laptop story was censored to suit Biden. Dems worked for a different set of oligarchs that's all. Don't you see it?
Another few centuries of dystopia and a few world wars until we finally rein them in? Just like what happened after the 'physical automation ' ('industrial') revolution?
Do we have the luxury of that time, given the ecology?
