I am beginning to think that Elon is not a chess player. As you mentioned he seem unable to look 2 moves ahead.
I watch this from the sidelines with a mixture of horror and amazement. As a product manager, I have spent more than 20 years trying to avoid this sort of chaos, and now I can see what happens if good people aren't at the critical points in the organization.
I am going to need Costco quantities of popcorn for this shit-show
I mostly agree with your analysis, but I have little faith in the ability of government institutions to curtail Musk's erratic and dangerous actions. The SEC gave him an ultimatum over his stock manipulation tweets. Musk essentially poked them in the eye, and...nada. Musk is actively undermining US foreign policy re China and Russia and...nada. His rockets explode, his overpriced cars crash and the government keeps subsidizing his companies.
It's been the story of the past 6 years...the absence of accountability for those at the top of the food chain. Unless that trajectory changes, the loss of money alone won't deter Musk.
I dunno... The thing about the SEC actions seemed to be that he was making a lot of money from the stock manipulation tweets and then getting fined a little money for the rule-breaking. That's a good deal for him.
He has poured $44 billion into Twitter while the rest of his portfolio has simultaneously taken a major hit. He's going to keep losing money on Twitter because he has wrecked the main revenue stream. The FTC fines will come on top of all that.
I don't know how he'll react to it. But I expect it will HURT in a way that the SEC actions never did.
I keep waiting for some action that convinces me that they really know what they are doing.
