I see no acceptance anywhere in the Democratic party that the Republican party is committed to eliminating democracy if that's what it takes for them to continue to hold power. It is simply a bridge too far to acknowledge the implications of that fact. Insupp9se they're waiting f9rmTrump to show up on TV in a uniform to announce martial law or something. Of all the institutions that have failed this moment, the party itself is the one that will tacitly ratify the Republican takeover of the federal government. The USA will go out with a Democratic whimper, not a bang.
Our instinct -- and it's not a bad one -- is to still be apologizing for Sherman's march to the sea, particularly galling when a century and more of Jim Crow and "Jim Crow lite" is effectively celebrated by folks who are not only in the tent of the party in power but sitting on the damn dais.

The voters were by and large very unhappy with the status quo and voted for what they new to be a wrecking ball, regardless what the wrecking ball would hit.
If you want to fix that, I suspect you need someone who has the same wrecking ball charisma, but directed at broligarchs, big money, mafia-style government. People are still angry. If that can be directed at what they should be angry about (e.g. attack Trump for his pardons of big drug dealers, etc.), then maybe total disaster could be avoided. But it would require a 60% majority in the Senate.
